I’m passionate about catalyzing impact.
Sawa has over 20 years of professional experience across impact investing, strategy, project management, and investment banking. Throughout her career, she has worked across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe, Middle East, and the U.S.
Previously Sawa served as Chief Executive Officer of E2 Investments (Pty) Ltd, an impact investment company with a mission to attack poverty and create jobs in South Africa. E2 is an empowerment partner to Allan Gray (Pty) Ltd, South Africa’s largest privately held investment management company.
Prior to E2, she worked for Barclays Africa Group’s Equity Investments and Special Projects team in Johannesburg. Before moving to South Africa, Sawa worked for the International Finance Corporation in the Health & Education Department where she invested in private hospitals, clinics, schools and universities in developing countries in a financially, socially and environmentally sustainable manner. Sawa started her career in finance at UBS Investment Bank.
In addition, she has extensive experience as a board and committee member including Spartan SME Finance, National Empowerment Fund, and African Leadership Academy’s Young Entrepreneurs Fund, Endeavor South Africa’s Harvest Fund II, and Equality Fund.
Sawa holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, a Masters in International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University, and a BA from International Christian University. She is a CFA Charterholder and holds a CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing. Sawa is a GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, and has a Certificate in Business Sustainability Management from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
